About IIT Madras
Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) was established in 1959. As per the QS World University Ranking, IIT Madras was ranked 180 with a score of 58.4. IIT Madras campus is spread across 630 acres of land and has over 550 faculty, 9700 students and 1250 administrative & supporting staff. IITM courses are spread across 16 academic departments. It offers multiple courses at the undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels. Apart from the regular courses, it also offers an online B.Sc programme. IIT Chennai admissions in all these programmes are done based on entrance exams. UG admissions are done through JEE Advanced, and admission to the MA and M.Tech programmes are done through GATE. Candidates willing to take admission in the MBA and M.Sc programme need to appear for CAT and JAM respectively.
The placement at IITM is quite impressive. It has the best placement records for various courses in the country. The highest package at IITM for the current year was recorded 4.3 Crores per annum with an average of 20 LPA. IIT Madras Courses and Admissions 2025
IIT Madras has 16 academic departments and a few advanced research centres in various disciplines of pure sciences and engineering. The curriculum of IIT Madras is designed in a way to encourage students to balance both academics and research. Several undergraduate, postgraduate, integrated, and doctoral-level courses are available at IIT Madras. It provides B.Tech and dual degree programmes in twelve different disciplines. The dual degree (BS & MS) in biological sciences and physics is available. MA, M.Sc, M.Tech, and MBA programmes are available at IIT Madras at the postgraduate level. Other IIT Madras courses available at the postgraduate level include the AICTE-sponsored QIP, the EMBA programme, and the web-enabled M.Tech programme. IIT Madras admission 2025 for the offered UG as well as PG courses has started on the official website. JEE Advanced qualification is required for admission to BTech programmes. On May 26, IIT Madras will administer JEE Advanced for admission to BTech programmes at all IITs. GATE scores are used to determine admission to the MTech programmes at IIT Madras. Those who want to apply for IIT Madras admission to the offered MSc courses must have to appear and qualify in the IIT JAM. Candidates must pass the CAT in order to be admitted to IIT Madras' Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme.

IIT Madras Application Process 2025
- First and foremost, candidates must meet the eligibility criteria set for the courses.
- Candidates then need to apply, appear and qualify the respective entrance exams. For example, for admission into M.Tech and MA programme, candidates need to clear the GATE, and register in the COAP portal as the COAP registration number and scores is necessary to fill up the IITM application form
- Once the above two points are cleared, candidates need to visit the IIT Madras official website.
- Candidates then need to fill up the application form and attach the necessary documents. Candidates then need to pay the IITM application fee. Candidates must note that the application fee will vary category wise.
- After the application is submitted and the fee is paid, candidates must keep a copy of the filled application form a well as the payment slip for future reference. This will mark the end of the IITM application process.

Indian Institute of Technology Madras placement report 2024-25 is out. As per the IIT Madras placement report 2024, a total of 256 companies visited the campus for placements, and a total of 1,612 offers were made. 1,091 students were placed with an average package of INR 22 LPA (B.Tech). IIT Chennai placement cell looks after the overall functioning from inviting recruiters, conducting pre-placement talks to organising the placement drive. The placement cell at Indian Institute of Technology Madras also conducts necessary training and workshops to make the students interview ready. The placement statistics for IIT Madras in 2024 indicate that approximately 80% of BTech and dual degree students and 75% of MTech students have been successfully placed. The highest salary packages reached up to ₹84 LPA for Dual Degree students in Computer Science. Notable recruiters include Apple, Google, Texas Instruments, and Qualcomm.
